The class of 2013 leaped into the spotlight with some breakout performances at the Nike combine here in Columbus. I have seen film of a few more players like Centervilles Evan Lisle. I thought it time to update my 2013 list. Here is my early top 25.
1 - Jalin Marshall, Ath, 6-0, 190, Middletown
I nearly dropped him outside the top ten because of the decision to camp as a quarterback but he runs the ball more than he throws it so he will be getting reps as a runner. Wish he was getting reps running routes and catching the ball.
2 - Cameron Burrows, DB, 6-2, 180, Trotwood Madison
Absolutely lit up the Nike camp. I nearly compared him to Eugene Clifford before. After this performance I don't have any problem doing that.
3 - Dymonte Thomas, Ath, 6-2, 180, Marlington
Outside of Marshall Thomas has the most impressive film in the class. National caliber talent on either side of the ball.
4 - Kyle Kempt, QB, 6-4, 190, Massillon
We have not seen him as camps yet but that is about to change.
5 - Taco Charlton, DE, 6-6, 240, Pickerington Central
Another 2013 player who lit up the Nike camp. Already getting offers.
6 - Billy Price, Lineman 6-4, 265, Fitch
Price did get an offer this week from Ohio State.
7 - Kyle Stahl, QB, 6-5, 200, St Henry
Quiet since football season. Looking forward to seeing him duel Kempt this summer.
8 - Lovell Peterson, C, 6-3, 270, Wayne
I said it before and I will say it again. The best center prospect from Ohio since Nick Mangold.
9 - Kevin Gladney WR, 6-3, 175, Firestone
Big wide out who is great on the ball and after the catch. If he gets his speed down just a bit he will write his own ticket.
10 - Evan Lisle, OL, 6-5, 260, Centerville
Price is the best lineman in the class so far but just as an offensive lineman Lisle is the better prospect.
11 - Aregeros Turner, CB, 5-10 180 4.4, Copley
Lit up an earlier combine. Already sporting an offer from Illinois.
12 - Jake Butt - DE, 6-6 215 4.7, Pickerington North
Great looking long edge rusher with a great motor.
13 - Ross Douglas, CB, 5-9 175 4.4, Avon
Another great looking corner prospect with great feet and long arms.
14 - Tommy Tupa QB, 6-3 200 4.8, Brecksville Broadview Heights
Any other class Tupa is easily the top quarterback.
15 - Marcus McWilson - SS/OLB, 6-0 190 4.4, Cardinal Mooney
Big fast and smart.
16 - Tre Williams- Brown, DE/LB, 6-3 220 4.8, Trotwood-Madison
Teammate Michael McCray gets more pub but this kid is a little better player right now.
17 - Cole Newsome - G, 6-3 275 5.0, Huber Heights Wayne
While watching Lovell Peterson I could not help but notice another great interior lineman on the Wayne line.
18 - Michael McCray II, LB/DE, 6-4 220, 4.5, Trotwood-Madison
One of the elite athletes in the class. Still looking for a position. Son of former Buckeye Mike McCray.
19 - Deveon Smith, RB, 5-10, 205 Howland
Great looking back who is falling down the list a bit because of concerns about speed and if he will outgrow the position. Skills are elite.
20 - Courtney Love - Safety, 6-1 192 4.61, Cardinal Mooney
Schools that get knocked off McWilsons list should ask for Loves number.
21 - Darrien Howard - Athlete, 6-2 241 4.76 Chaminade-Julienne
If I were just rating football players Howard would be top five.
22 - Chris Davis - RB, 5-9 170 4.45, Colerain
Great looking smaller back who could move up big as he looks like he has the frame to get bigger.
23 - Joel Rich - TE-DE, 6-5 215 4.70, St. Thomas Aquinas
Might be a better tight end right now but many will just recruit him as a big.
24 - Jarrod Clements, DE-TE, 6-3 235 4.9, Dunbar
I first heard about Clements as a tight end but where he leaps out at me is as an edge guy.
25 - A.J Branisel - TE-DE, 6-4 220 4.70, Notre Dame Cathedral Latin
Another big who is going to make some noise just as an athlete.
I have mention Malik Zaire, QB, 6-1 185 4.6, Kettering Alter and Diniro Laster - WR, 6-2 200 Shaker Heights. They were mostly JV players last year but they could shake this list up dramatically by December.
