Look at the numbers:
Pryor is 134 out of 203, a 66% completion percentage, for 1775 yards, and 18 touchdowns with 6 interceptions. His quarterback rating is 162.81
Newton is 90 out of 138, 65.6 completion percentage, for 1364 yards, and 13 touchdowns with 5 interceptions. His quarterback rating is 172.08
Newton has only thrown more than 19 times in a game twice, he has 2 games of 21 attempts. Pryor threw 16 passes versus Illinois. His next lowest game is 25 attempts versus Marshall.
Newton has a season high of 245 yards and that was against La-Monroe. He has had 2 other games of over 200 yards, 203 versus Clemson and 210 versus Kentucky. Pryor has thrown for at least 224 yards in 6 of our last 8 games.
Here is the difference. Pryor - 81 carries for 408 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Newton - 157 carries for 1077 yards and 14 touchdowns.
I thought a quarterback was in there to throw the ball first. Pryor could put up rushing numbers just as impressive if he was not hanging in there trying to find an open receiver. I am a Newton fan. He is more advanced than Pryor was at the same time in his development. He is a junior but his level of competition has been JUCO. I consider this to be his first year of playing against the same level of competition as Pryor. He is much more sound mechanically. He has just as strong an arm. He just needs seasoning as a passer. In a couple of years with the consistent mechanics, Newton is probably going to be the better player and a higher rated NFL prospect. As a runner I see completely different players. If Pryor blew out his arm he could make a great wide receiver. If Newton blows out his arm he will move to tight end. But they are quarterbacks. Make no mistake about that. I love a mobile quarterback but the quarterback is in there to make plays with his arm. The running is extra. Terrelle Pryor is the better quarterback. I think someone will decide to make Newton beat them with his arm. That is when he will be exposed. Make Pryor stay in the pocket and he will beat you. I do not think we will see Newton rise to that challenge. Not yet anyway.
