I have grown to trust Mark Porter when it comes to player evaluation. He has become very good at this. Imagine my surprise when he said he was impressed with this receiver class. We agree so much that when I saw that it was a real surprise.

I see Devin Smith and Shaq Washington as the players who should get Big Four offers in the state. Shane Wynn is not a pure receiver. His offer is as much about kick returns as it is being a receiver. I need to see a kid that size be effective as an every down receiver in a major college offense. I hope he can as the kid is electric with the ball in his hands.

I am not sure this is a really good class but taking the time to look around the state tells me the truth of the matter is somewhere between my thinking and Marks. Outside of Smith there are no big time split ends but there are quite a number of the flanker/slot receivers out there. Washington and Wynn are just at the top of the list. Fans are excited about A.J. Jordan. He is a very skilled kid but I know the Big Four schools have reservations about his size. He may be his listed 6-1, or at least close to it, but I had one guy who saw him up close say he is a slightly built kid and one who has very small hands. If you just went on the film you would see Jordan with Big Four offers but bodies matter a great deal in this.

Another player fans are excited about is Darius Patton. His dad played for coach Tressel and the kid is lightning in a bottle. Playing in that part of the state is going to draw even more attention to him. He has a nice offer list but I would be very surprised to see an offer from the Big Four. He is smooth and highly skilled. Someone will get a fine receiver and kick returner.

The one that is not being talked about is the most impressive to me. Darius Hillary from Cincinnati Sycamore is the one most likely to jump up there and be a Big Four offer kid. He is bigger at 5-11 and has the most impressive offer list between himself, Patton and Jordan. He is showing well as a corner. He may in fact be a college corner. It would not hurt my feelings to see the Buckeyes come in with a late offer to him as a corner who could also be a kick returner. I am that impressed with him.

My top 5 in Ohio:

1 - Devin Smith, 6-2, 175, Massillon.

2 - Shaq Washington, 5-10, 175, Maple Height

Washington was a recent guest of the Buckeyes for a recent junior day. Smith is due in this weekend. I think it is going to be very interesting to see if the Buckeyes are going to take three receivers in this class. Smith brings something to the table that Evan Spencer and Shane Wynn do not, size. Spencer might be able to play split end but I think he fits better as a flanker. With Smith there is no question. He has that suddenness that I love to see.

3 - Shane Wynn, 5-6, 147, Glenville. After so much fuss we now have accurate numbers on Wynn. This was his offiicial height and weight at the junior combine.

4 - Darius Hillary, 5-11, 175. Look for yourself at this under the radar kid.
