McReynolds dropped?
Written by Duane Long

There is a rumor going around the top defensive tackle prospect Kevin McReynolds has had his offer pulled after the Buckeyes received a verbal from Indiana's Joel Hale. First, Jim Tressel does not pull offers. However, telling someone you are full at his position is not pulling an offer. I don't know if it has happened. I have not heard anything about that happening. I can see both sides of it. McReynolds is a difference maker at a position that you don't turn down elite players at. The problem is we have five current DTs and only one senior. We have two commitments from DTs and several other players in Farris, J.T. Moore and Melvin Fellows who could grow into DTs. We are running out of room and the number of elite players who have us on their short list means some decisions need to be made. That the staff made the decision to prioritize at other positions is a very sound judgement.

What are we going to do about the defensive backfield? Torrence is a senior. Chekwa is a senior. Donnie Evege is the only corner I have heard anything about as far as stepping up is concerned. He is finally healthy and looks like he is going to help this team. None of the others seem ready. The reports I got said Brown and Clarke did nothing to show they are ready to step in. You have to want to put as many bodies out there are you can. The staff seems to feel the same way based on the number of offers that are out there. We have some elite talent looking this way and we need to add some bodies. I have been concerned about safety for years but now I feel more confident about the talent level at safety than I do at corner. We are going to be fine this year but we need to get as many athletes in the mix as possible at corner.

I think we have a problem at wide receiver. We have six slot receivers including James Louis. Three are seniors. At split end I see a very scary scenario as a definite possibility. If Devier Posey steps up his game another level he is gone. Anyone who thinks Duron Carter is sure to be with the program this time next year is fooling himself. That leaves Tyrone Williams and Evan Spencer to fill that role. We need to add more bodies at receiver.

We still need to find a left tackle.

Apparently there is a conference call today between the staff, McReynolds and McReynolds coach. We should have this straightened out in a day or so.

Got 2 take him
written by Kasino, June 09, 2010
I'm not sure you don't take McReynolds regardless. How rare is it to find elite DT's with great size and who can qualify? Exactly, pretty slim in these parts. I say take him. 1. Besides Simon the rest of young DT's havent' flashed yet. 2. Historically we haven't been able to grab the creme of the crop DT's year in and year out, so better take one in the hand.

Whats are schollie count? 20-22 with 14 already filled up. I think thats plenty of room to grab another big WR,DB,and that LT (especially if we don't hold any spots for anyone).

What's your opinion on Farris / Hale getting a look at OT? If DT gets overstocked one way to get the field for a guy might be to switch sides. Good big, athletes with some height and long arms might be able to make it happen.

I keep hearing that we need corners, but it seems we always recruit a group of 2-4 every year, most of them being highly touted out of high school. You'd have to think that among: Bryant, Roby, Clarke, Barnett, and the 2 Corey's, that the cupboards not bare. Not to mention Howard, whom the staff seem's to like, but can't seem to stay healthy. There may not be an elite corner that could step in right away like maybe a Joyner or Shaw, but I think from this stable someone will mature to be a next level talent.

Couple things Duane:

First, I don't understand the obesession some OSU fans have with moving DEs to DT. I understand it happens, but I have heard it said about Fellows, Wells and even Hayes, who seems like a PURE DE. Anyway, first I have seen you mention Fellows to DE, but it just made me think of all the times over the last few months I have seen "move ___ to DT." What do you see with Fellows that makes you think DT? He looked good in the spring at DE and I think he has a rare size/speed combo that will make him a great SSDE.

Second, I don't see the problem at receiver. I think that Louis is an outside receiver all the way. Santonio played on the outside just fine and I think Louis has a comparable skill set. I don't think the OSU staff has a clearly defined skill set for their "slot receiver" anyway. Look at guys we have used in the slot - Roy Hall, Gonzo, Hartline, Ray, Sanz.

seen jt moore up close on bball ct. no way he's ever a DT. has avg. size thighs at best and very skinny calves for a man his size. he may get t. gibson's size at best.

Moore's already Gibson's size. He's 6'3" 240, but yeah, the staff isn't planning for him at DT. They're saying LEO.

McReynolds spot is still open, for now. That tells me we will take 11 bigs this year and that Hale or Farris can play DE or OT. Walker will probably get in but he needs to shed massive pounds to play OT and we have plenty of OG. Is Walker a possible DT and might he be the last big taken for a total of 10? Are the Glenville guys still guaranteed spots?

I share your WR concerns and like Story to fill that spot. Also share your CB concerns. Grant is a must and I'd like to see another shut down cover type besides him, not a boundary corner. I see no need for another S but I guess we will take Tanner anyway.

Duane, I'd like to see what you have to say on McReynolds still being in play.

hey o-state, no way is moore 240. not even close. having seen moore play bball up close and seeing gibson in shorts and t-shirt at the combine, gibson has him by at least 20 lbs and is way more developed. moore will never be a DT, not even close.

Some time before, I needed to buy a building for my firm but I did not earn enough money and couldn't buy something. Thank heaven my colleague proposed to try to take the credit loans from reliable bank. So, I acted so and used to be happy with my car loan.
