Recruiting Update - 1/23/2010

We are eight days from signing day. Time to update.

The news on Hicks seems to be pointing toward the Buckeyes across the board. My thinking has not changed. I am not going to say he is a sure first year player here. The linebacker depth here is another level. I would put the Buckeye linebacker corps up against anyones. USC, Florida, anyone. Etienne Sabino, Andrew Sweat and Storm Klein would be a starting unit most anywhere in college football but could not get on the field here. If anyone can force his way onto the field with what the Buckeyes have returning it is Hicks. I think the odds that he redshirts here are high. Keeping the talent level this high is the biggest benefit of landing Hicks. Things look good, Buckeye fans. I would say I have gone from surprised to see him be a Buckeye to shocked to see him not at this point.

The offensive linemen are what everyone wants to hear about. One Minnesota based newspaper says Henderson to Ohio State. I am more worried about Notre Dame than anyone. The only people impressed with Lane Kiffin are some USC people. I am not worried about them. Florida is real close to filled up, if not alreayd filled up. I know. Henderson is a player you make room for. Florida does not seem to be waiting on him. The talk of Henderson to Florida was never that extensive and seems to have died down. The other good news is with Morgan Moses. He seems zeroed in on the Buckeyes. What a finish if the Buckeyes land both. Henderson, Moses and Norwell would rival Brewster, Shugarts and Adams. Still concerned about numbers on the offensive line as we lose three after next year and the 2011 offensive line class is not looking like one full of five-star low hanging fruit. The only top ten kid on my current board is Donovan Clark and he might be a better DT. I don't know what James is going to do. No clue. I would take all four if they wanted to come this way. Nothing on Quentin Spain. He talked like he was visiting. I don't know what happened to that but I can guess. A kid from Va commits early to WVa. gets no other offers despite being good enough to rate the Army game. That adds up to qualifying issues.

Not optimistic about Dominique Brown. I think he wants to play quarterback more than he wants to be a Buckeye. Not a smart move. He has NFL athleticism but will waste years of development because he wants o play quarterback that badly.

2011 quarterback news. Hodgepodge on Bucknuts mentioned something I was not aware of. The Buckeyes have an offer out to a Florida quarterback, Jerrard Randall. I first learned of this yesterday. Before anyone writes that off, the kid is bigtime and his coach played for JT at Youngstown State, and was on the YSU coaching staff. I spoke to the coach as few years back when he was at St. Thomas Aquinas high school here in Ohio. Jones is a late bloomer. Offers were already out by the time he showed he was Buckeye caliber. He has added an offer from Illinois recently. That he does not have an offer destroys my three quarterback scenario as he would surely have one if the Buckeyes intended to try and take three quarterbacks. It does show that we will try to take two. That he is a Glenville kid tells me that we still have a shot at getting back in on him should Miller or Randall choose not to come this way. There is no film of Randall that I am aware of but here is a link to a story about him:

Christian Bryant is supposed to announce later today. I will put something up after the announcement.

Will Moses be Eligible?
written by Boston's Stiff-Arm, January 26, 2010
I just read a newspaper article linked on the O-zone a few minutes ago that said Moses will likely have to go back to prep school since he hasn't been able to qualify yet.

Hicks?

So far, you're the ONLY expert saying Hicks to OSU. Everyone else says Texas...

If you're right on this one, you ARE the man!
Hicks...

Buck, you must be talking to different experts than I am. Everyone I know with UT contacts are saying that they feel Hicks is staying home.

If we land Hicks I'll think of it as a coup given how much talk had him at Texas throughout this season.

I'll have to think some OL names will emerge in the coming months, and especially by next season, but I don't think you say no to any of the three kids we're still considering. If Henderson and Moses commit I find room for James if he wants in as well. If anything because I worry about Moses actually getting in here and staying eligible.

Duane, let's see if you are answering questions these days. OL - Going back to 2080, what was the mistake did everyone make in evaluating Mike Adams? I recognize OL takes longer, people question his meanness, what thee think in reflection?
