The most recent news is the new offers to three 2011 players.
I could not be happier about the offer to Centerville lineman Michael Bennett. If he is not a great offensive lineman then it is because he is a great DT. Talk about explosive. This is a kid that can dominate the line of scrimmage on either side of the ball. I would try him of defense first anyway and I would not be surprised if that is what happens. He is 6-3 and listed at about 270. Bolls likes really tall linemen, very few under 6-4 have been offered during his time here, but we have a history of doing well with DTs that are not ideal sized. I am not a fan of the strategy but it is hard to dispute the success this staff has had with these guys. We are seeing it right now with John Simon who fell down the recruiting rankings because of his size two years ago. The results have been far better than the last few years of trying to create
DTs. We have not been growing DTs. We have been creating them. There is a difference. Growing is taking a kid who plays like a DT, with a thick frame and putting the right kind of weight on him. Creating a DT is trying to take a kid whose game is better suited for the edge, Worthington is a perfect example, and making tackles out of the them because they lack the burst and the explosion to play the edge. Often it is because they have simply outgrown DE. They are just not athletic enough anymore to play outside but that does not make them tackles. When we look back at the best defenses we have put on the field we have seen these highly productive war dogs like Tim Anderson and Darrion Scott and more recently with Quinn Pitcock and David Patterson. We have the natural wide bodies in the program with Goebbel, Hankins and Bellamy but this staff seems to find a way to make these guys that will always get the undersized label effective in our scheme. Bennett is such a powerhouse and so explosive. Love the offer. I have seen an even more extensive video of him but here is a sample from ScoutingOhio.

I really like the offer to Ronald Tanner. I can't say I am really surprised. JT will go after these vestatile athletes every year no matter the scholarship numbers. Tanner could be a receiver or a safety but nobody is talking about corner because he does not appear to have the 4.5 or better speed. When I look at Tanner I see a kid with long arms and a great body. He does not have ideal corner speed but if the ball is up for grabs whether it be a tipped ball or a fumble, or a poorly thrown ball, this kid finds it. He is tough tough tough against the run. A really good tackler. Who does that sound like to you? Malcolm Jenkins. Maybe Tanner does end up at safety but I am not going to be surprised if he gets a shot at corner in the Buckeye defensive scheme just like Jenkins. I say Buckeye secondary because the word around Columbus is he could pull the trigger anytime.
Here is a very impressive film of Tanner from ScoutingOhio:

We also offered Aundrey Walker. I am really having a hard time wrapping my mind around that one. I saw four complete Glenville games this year. He never did anything to stand out to me. He shoould dominate the line of scrimmage, something both Michael Bennett and Donovan Clark do, but Walker does not. I think this offer could be a combination of the fact that you can't coach frame, and Walker is a massive kid, and the pipeline with Glenville. Maybe they think they can trim him down a little and put a nice guard on the field. That is the only thing I can come up with.
Here is a film of Clark:
