I know some of you may be looking at the title of this post and you are thinking, "We are only halfway through 2011 and this whackjob is talking about 2012." No, it is not too early. Look at the class of 2011. It is for all intents over. Look at the number of offers out there. Look at the number of players who are leaning this way. Braxton Miller, Ron Tanner, Evan Spencer, Doran Grant and Aundray Walker, all stand as heavy Buckeye leans. It is just a matter of time with Nick Vannett. The Buckeyes are going to be hard to beat with Michael Bennett. That is ten verbals, and add these seven kids, all would be huge shocks if they went anywhere else, we are not going to see but a handful of offers. We will wait until signing day on Bennett, Vaughters and Trey DePriest. That is twenty slots accounted for in a class that is looking like around twenty. We will talk about it a great deal but for all intents and purposes this class is done.
I have been looking at a lot of film for the class of 2012. Based on what we are seeing with the class of 2011, this is going to sound crazy but the class of 2012 is looking like it will be a better class. Here is a crazier statement. The defensive line class is going to be just as good and could be better. Yes, I said that. A class with five-star ends in Kenny Hayes and Steve Miller, a great tackle in Michael Bennett and a super athlete in Chase Farris, might be the best defensive line class ever in Ohio for only one year. You have heard about Greg McMullen but you have not heard much about Toledo Whitmer junior to be Chris Wormley or Massillon's Sevon Pittman who many think could be better than Steve Miller. I am looking at six Big Four caliber defensive linemen in Ohio for the class of 2012. I would go so far as to say this class is better at the same stage in their development. Massively great looking defensive line class.
The backs are well documented but the focus has been on Warren Ball and Brionte Dunn. That is just the tip of the iceberg. Here is a name to keep in mind. Jamire Westbrook from Kings Mills. He is the most complete of this outstanding back class as he is a great receiver. Another to keep track of is Alex Winters from Massillon. Lightning quick with great vision. He is not the biggest but I think he is going to get bigger. I see at least six backs in the state that will get attention from the top ranks of the Big Ten.
I like several offensive linemen at this early point but they are all taking a backseat to Taylor "the Wrecker" Decker from Vandalia-Butner. 6-8 and in the 260 range but agile enough to at least draw attention for a possible offer in basketball. Brewster and Boren and Shugarts would approve of the way he plays the game. He is another level, Buckeye fans.
Not a deep looking class of defensive backs but there are two that are sure to get early offers. You know about the appropriately named Bam Bradley. There may be a better defensive back in the state next year. Stay tuned and you will hear more about him.
