The Buckeyes landed a big need in the last couple of days with a verbal from Florida Barron Collier tight end Jeff Heuerman. He also had offers from Tennessee, Wisconsin, Boston College, Maryland and Michigan, to name just a few. Florida had been showing a good deal of interest but had not come in with an offer. His Dad played basketball at Michigan. I only got see a handful of plays but he shows both the receiving and the blocking that the Buckeyes desperately need at the position. I like his athleticism.
Even more good news could be coming soon as I have heard that Nick Vannett could be a Buckeye soon. The handwriting was on the wall late last week when he decided to come to
the Buckeye spring game over the Notre Dame spring game. Vannett had a list of favorites but the buzz is that Notre Dame and Ohio State top his list. That was also the chatter about the Buckeyes other top tight end target Ben Koyack, who did attend the Notre Dame spring game where he made a verbal committment. Heureman issued his verbal to the Buckeyes just after the spring weekend. What does Vannett see last weekend? Stoneburner putting on a show. Slots are filling up. I am hearing Notre Dame is only taking one tight end in this class and the Buckeyes are only taking two. It is a smart move for Vannett to get onboard now.
Getting both these kids is just great work by the staff. It is a great need, not one but two tight ends in this class. I like both these players. Again, great clutch recruiting by the staff.
Here is something to think about. Does getting Two tight ends in this class also mean we are getting a left tackle? Maybe we can finally move Reid Fragel to left tackle.
Another piece of news. Cardale Jones apparently thinks he is getting an offer this weekend. he made a statement to a Detroit newspaper where he is confident that he will get a Buckeye offer. I find the timing of that interesting. We saw an offer to Sturdivant right after the latest incident with Jamel Turner, an event that has everyone speculating that Turner may not be a Buckeye. Could it be that the final resolution with another player, in this case Braxton Miller, allows the staff to see the field more clearly and can make a decison? I think both Miller and Jones takes the Buckeyes to another level. You ave to like the odds that one of them is going to be an elite quarterback
