Spring practice has been my focus so it took me longer to get to this than I intended.

Need is where recruiting starts. The staff has done a great job of stocking the depth chart but there are always needs.

It seems every year I start this list talking about offensive line. I think we have already stocked most of the needs by picking up four quality inside linemen already. The one area that has not been addressed yet is left tackle. I don't care if Adams blossoms into an All-American and possible early entry player or not. He is a junior. We get him for two more seasons and that is it. Andy Miller will be a senior. We need to add a left tackle now. I hope that is the plan. Nail down the much needed guards early and focus on adding an elite left tackle. I wish I had a name to throw out there for you. Unfortunately, this does not seem to be a a good year to need a top tackle. It is early. Lets hope someone emerges in the combine and camp season.

I cannot stress how important it is to add a tight end to this class. We like to say, "we don't rebuild we reload". That means having quality players to just plug the next guy in there. We are on the verge of dropping below the Buckeye standard looking for tight ends. Vannett or Koyack are crucial. Both would be great but I don't see that happening. It seems the Buckeyes are in on both, and the best news is both have Notre Dame high on their lists. I don't see them getting both any more than I see us getting both. Gotta get a tight end in here, Buckeye fans. Gotta get the talent level up at the position. One thing that takes the pressure off is moving recruit Darryl Baldwin to tight end. I am not excited about him as a defensive player but I think he could fit in nicely as a tight end. He has played tight end at least as well as he played defensive end. We are not having problems recruiting defensive linemen. Move Baldwin over as soon as he gets here and do everything short of cheating to get Koyack or Vannett.

The Duron Carter situation is disturbing. Spring practice reports have Posey elevating his game to the point that he might consider an early entry. We lose Sanzenbacher, Washington and Schwartz, who is having a great spring by the way. We are going to be down to six receivers and could be down to four. I think down to five is a real possibility because of Posey. Five scholarship receivers when you play three at a time a good bit is not good enough. We very much need to get a pair of receivers in here. My ideal situation is superstar split end Ja'Juan Story and Evan Spencer.

Defensive backfield. No, I did not say safety. I said defensive backfield. Corner is a concern. Torrence and Chekwa are seniors. We moved Barnett to safety. Evege is the only underclassman who is having a good spring, and he is a junior. Reports on Corey Brown and Dominic Clarke do not give me the confidence to assume we are in good hands at the corners. Both are very young but getting a few more talents into the mix is a really good idea.
