Recruiting - 2010 top 10
Written by Duane Long

Here is my top 10 list of Buckeye recruits still on the board:

1 - Seantrell Henderson
I am getting great news about Henderson from multiple sources. We are in good shape here. If we can get him out of LA without him verballing, I think we stand a great chance of getting the next Orlando Pace in a Buckeye uniform. Yes, it went that well. I think Notre Dame has some ground to make up on the Buckeyes and Trojans. I feel confident at this point that this is an Ohio State-USC battle. Henderson and Norwell is tackle Nirvana. Not as many bodies as I want but it makes it easier to swallow when they are this level of talent.

2 - Jordan Hicks

I have always believed we would get this kid. He had a great visit. Something I just learned. He is not originally from Ohio. Coming from Lakots West, a pro-Ohio State part of the state and a program that has sent a number of players to the Buckeyes, I assumed he would be a lock. I like where we are with him.

3  - Josh Shaw

Another great visit. If he is talking about USC a lot it is news to me. I would love to see this kid in scarlet and gray. He has four visits set, none to USC. He does not list USC in his top five. You gotta like that. Love to land this kid.

4 - LaMarcus Joyner

I know he had a great visit. I know he says the Buckeyes lead. If he is saying that after he visits Florida State I will squeal like a school girl who just found a stray kitten. That he really likes them and they got to roll out the red carpet, wine him and dine him, introduce him to the A-list football loving chicks, after us bothers me.

5 - Christian Bryant

Looking real good on the football field and will look real good in scarlet and gray.

6 - Matt James
Just call him the enigma. The longer this goes on the quieter he gets. The longer it goes without a commitment from him the better for Ohio State and Notre Dame. If I am Brian Kelly I am working hard to get a verbal from him.

7 - Chaz Green
He has had little to say since he went back home. I had a suspicion that he was only coming to see a great game. His silence since confirms it.

8 - Fre'Shad Hunter

Just get your grades squared away big fella. There will be a place for you.

9 - Brandon Linder
Despite the good news on players higher on this list I still think Linder is our best bet.

10 - Will Hagerup

Great visit and a real need.

Dunae-another player to add if he makes grades is the TB Eric Howard. Provided he makes grades, he is a lock to commit. Bigger, stronger version of Boom Herron with hopefully a little more shake and bake to his game than Boom.

No Latwan Anderson on your list.
Is that because he doesn't make your top 10 or because you don't think he really has an offer or what?

Rgarding Fre'Shad Hunter. The fact that he doesn't have an offer from UNC and Va. Tech makes me wonder about him. Also, NC State is famous for taking kids that really don't qualify academically. Kids in NC got here because they can't get into UNC.

Jordan Hicks does not play for Wayne, he plays for Lakota West.

You forgot to mention that the Buckeyes are not recruiting anyone named Jordan Shaw.

I get the 2 schools mixed up. With all the talk about Braxton Miller, a Wayne kid, I am getting my signals crossed. I will fix it. It doesn't change the statement. Lakota has a history of sending players to Ohio State.

I thought it is pretty well known that Linder is NOT coming to OSU.

Also, agree that Anderson should be in, maybe just outside the top 10.

By the way, we already have 12 or 13 commits, how many of those do we accept and who do you say no to?

I hate to say it but I do not think that FSU will come out as our main competition for Joyner. I think it will be Florida. Especially since things are a bit gray as to whether they will get Elam or not. I do not believe that Hunter belongs in this list at this time. I don't believe he even has an offer. Anderson should be in this though. Also someone outside this list that could be a twelfth hour commit is Payne.

I have not heard that yet. I don't take in much from internet sources. I have my own. I go to Bucknuts. I go to Buckeye Planet. I go to ScoutingOhio and Rivals to watch film. If someone else has some other information then they have more current information than I have. Last I heard we had a shot at the kid.

Who do I turn down? Tough question. We have 18. I know everyone projects 20 but I don't know how you recruit with a maybe number. Need changes the board. So that gives me 5 or 6. I don't think we are getting James or Green. I think Joyner could break either way but with a gun to my head I still think things are too equal and he stays close to home.

That leaves me 7. Henderson, Hicks, Shaw, no-brainers. I think taking another safety is a
no-brainer after the recent shake-up showed how little faith the staff has i the depth chart. I think the possibility that Hagan is headed for linebacker is something we have to keep in mind so Bryant is a take. I think we have to take Hagerup. I don't know who punts for us next year. I hate spending scholarships on kickers. Two makes me crazy. Especially in a small class but we need to get the quality and the numbers up. Special teams is important all the time but especially with Tresselball. If I have 6 then I take Hunter. He is a difference maker at a position of need, string side DE. No problem if he grows into a DT.

I know that list leaves me with only two offensive linemen but that is a matter of best available talent. If James or Green were more a possibility I would take one of them. I would take both. Too talented and at a need position. No way would I say no to either even if I had the other.

It has nothing to do with the offer. I see an Ohio State talent. I don't see a Tressel kid.

But is he a lock to get an offer? I don't think so.

Kids can change. I have subscriptions to all the main sites and last I heard about Linder was very interested in OSU. His parents said that OSU was #4 before they visited during his game vs UA and after all 4 were even. With Cris Carter on the staff and Lamarcus giving us more than a hard look, I think he'll make up the visit. Problem is it is not going to be the same type of game the USC one was. We definitely still have a shot at him.

Duane I dont know why you would even include Chaz Green in the list, because I dont think we have even the remotest chance of him coming North.
His name should have been replaced by Anderson, who word has it gave a silent verbal along with Bryant, of course pending his academic package. I hope they can work with his pychological package too.

Second of all. Joyner in his article, setting the record straight, said: "I would be set for Life on and off the field." After meeting a bunch of boosters, and growing up with Chris Carter and learning what the Buckeye Nation and its Family is all about and its connections.
What can you read into that but that he is nothing but an absolute LOCK.
He knows what his future holds here before during and after, that those other schools can not offer him.

Third. I would love to get three stellar OL in this class, but what is the use if Bollman wont put them in the game. It is exciting to see all these true freshmen come in here and upseed these upperclassmen, but then Bollman refuses to play them and give them the necessary experience they need. What if the boys go down in front of them like Cordle just did? I am NOT one to BASH coaches like evryone knows, but Bollman is starting to ride the pine with even me!
His management of the game is getting out of hand.
He cant even alternate the older crew, let alone the younger crew. What are we recruiting all these Oliners for?
We have 85 scholarships for a reason.
Players get worn out by human nature, and being on the field too long without a break will wear them down. Why is he not PLATOONING them alittle more?
I would think that would be our Secret Weapon with the tremendous depth we have. I though that was Phil Steele's deal in rating our OL #2 in the nation?

I think your first Five will commit here, along with Hagerup and Anderson, and I would love to have Hunter and at least one of those two lineman. I know that 21, but who's really counting Turner, and lets pray for Hyde and Moeller to be in camp. Lets just hope there is room for everyone. I think there will be as there usually is enough attrition to make this happen.
Any thoughts as to the attrition?

That is the problem. I just don't see a roster with sure early entry players like last year because we are young. We are not having academic problems. You can't project medical waivers. I think transfers are a possibility. Being young left us with alot of reps for the taking. By the end of the year we are going to see spots secured, most likely by a young player. That means other young players are going to see an unfavorable depth chart. Who and how many is the question.

Is there a point where we pull offers to OL? Henderson is obviously one you wait for, same could be said about James, but if Linder pulls the trigger, does it become first to verbal? Gotta think Henderson holds out til All-star games at earliest. If Linder verbals, and staff feels good about Henderson/James do they back off the other? This I think is the WORST scenario as we have been burned by similar things in the past.

Same question with Shaw, if both the Genville kids jump onboard, while Shaw waits to announce, is there anyway the staff cools on him (especially if they feel good about Joyner)? Again, bad situation as we tend to get burned on these things. I think I would hold schollies til end for Shaw/Joyner.

Hunter to NC St. so cross him off.

I saw something about Hagan looking decent at RB. Might he get a look at RB with the Buckeyes? On RB, I don't see room for both Howard and Hyde. If Hagan is a RB I see no reason to take either unless a promise was made. Where does Brown end up, RB or WR?

Schofner seems willing to wait on an offer, does he get one? Does he get an offer if we get Henderson? I think ideally you take Henderson, Norwell and somebody that projects as a G/C. I don't think Schofner projects as a G/C so he may be out if we get Henderson or James.

I think we will be able to take 20 & I won't count Turner so I'd like to see,,,
1. Henderson
2. Another OL that can play G/C. Green/Linder is all I see right now & I'm not hearing anything positive on these guys.
3. A really good DT prospect. I don't see anybody on the horizon so maybe we take another OL and move Linsley.
4. Hicks
5. Bryant
6. Joyner
7. Shaw
8. Hagerup

I'd love to see us take 3 OL in this class, 4 if we move Linsley but if we stay true to form we will only take 2. Two is not enough and would be a failing grade.

So Hagerup is off the board. Do we offer Lloyd or use the 'ship for another position?
