If there has ever been a college football season that made the early polls more of a joke than this year, I don't remember it. Mississippi was as high as #4? Did you see Mississippi last night? That is a team that is going to have a hard time winning enough games to be bowl eligible. I don't understand how they got there. I assume that the Mississippi quarterback, Jevan Snead, and DE Greg Hardy were the basis of the ranking. Both are projected first round draft choices. Snead is the quarterback Steve Spurrier made first team all-SEC over Tebow. Last night he was simply awful. I think he hurt his draft stock more with his comment about being happy that now the pressure was off. Huh? You want to play in the NFL but you
are relieved that the pressure is off??? I can see him surely falling out of the first day just on that comment.
Speaking of the draft, Hardy had a good game even though he was not 100%. The best player on the field was S. Carolina DE/OLB Eric Norwood. He is special. For those of us that follow the pro game, that is a name to remember.
It seems there is some buzz about Taylor Mays with the Browns. If the Browns have a chance at Eric Berry and pass to take Mays then we will see a new staff and GM again in Cleveland in a few years. Berry is Ed Reed. Mays is Sean Taylor without the baggage. What that means is Berry is a possible future Hall of Famer. Mays is going to carry the mystique that comes from a player that big at safety, who brings you the occasional big hit.
NFL team I am rooting for this year, other than the Steelers of course. The San Francisco 49'ers. Love Singletary, and I have had enough of the prima donas. Michael "Kanye" Crabtree ended up at Texas Tech due to character questions. He fell down NFL draft boards for that reason, as much as for the foot injury. Now he is holding out because he and his agent have come up with this formula that makes him worth top 5 money. He has decided that he will just re-enter the draft next year and get drafted higher. What? Let me get this straight. You are going to not play football for a full year, coming off an injury mind you, confirm your prima dona credentials, and get drafted HIGHER??? Like Kanye, Crabtree is a legend in his own mind.
Back to the college game. Florida is #1. Who wants to take a stab at #2? I doubt there is any consensus. Texas will likely do for now. After that it is a complete crapshoot. Alabama, Penn State and California are next. Is anybody really impressed with any of them? Boise State is the 8th best team in the country? Not a chance. Put them in a big conference and they will never win more than 8 games. I am more impressed with the next few teams, Miami, USC, Ohio State and Cincinnati. USC came into Columbus and won a game over a better Buckeye team than anyone wants to give them credit for being. In a week where Colin Cowherd said the Buckeye defense was overrated, that defense shut out a Toledo team that had scored 90 points in two games. It is a defense that held USC to 11 points. No, I am not counting the first touchdown against the defense. The offense game the ball to USC on the 2 yard line, and I have yet to speak to anyone that has seen the picture of the touchdown that says the USC back got over the goal line. Miami is fast again and Jacory Harris is the real deal. USC was coming off a huge win at Ohio State and had injuries to two key players. Cincinnati is putting together a resume that gives them a strong argument for being called, "the Beast of the East." They won the Big East last year and have slapped their first 3 opponents up and down the field. Looking at their schedule they are odds-on to go 12-0. The biggest problem for the Bearcats is trying to hold on to head coach Brian Kelly.
One last thing. There was an interesting blog post by a fellow Bloguin football blogger about the Ohio State-Oklahoma double standard. Go over and take a look.

UC will be favored in the rest of their games going into Pitt for the last game of the season. I dont see anyone in the Big East stopping UC's offense.
