Top Ten Big Ten steals so far
Written by Duane Long

You always want to get great players. That goes without saying. Going into another region, another part of the country and taking a player away from the local powers doubles the impact as you take talent away from them. This is my early list of the best gets for the Big Ten so far. Marvin Robinson has deep Michigan roots or he would be on here.

1 - William Gohlston to Michigan State. A bonafide nationally ranked talent, with the offers to match, picks the home state ugly cousin over some of the nations elite schools. Great get for Mark Dantonio. Bigger schools will be paying attention to recruiting wins like this one.

2 - David Durham to Ohio State. When I first saw him there was talk of him being a defensive end. I saw a Texas/LSU caliber middle
linebacker. That was until I saw film of him as a defensive end. He is just as likely and maybe more likely to be an impact defensive end. A definite candidate for most underrated player in the country list.

3 - Adrian Coxson to Penn State. JoePa goes into Maryland and pulls out a receiver who I wold say is the most underrated split end in the country, one who sports offers from Florida and Georgia. JoePa still has some magic left.

4 - Ricardo Miller to Michigan. National kid with an offer from Florida as well as Tennessee. I think Michigan needs to rebuild its overall athleticism and speed. This is the kind of player who can help them do that.

5 - Andrew Donnal to Iowa. Ohio has a great OL class this year. Matt James is everyones #1 LT but I would say he is 1a and Donnal is 1b. I like him that much.

6 - Gerald Robinson to Michigan. Whether you believe the Buckeyes told him they would not be offering or whether you believe he always wanted Michigan, this is a great looking athlete. I don't know if he is fast enough to be a wide receiver but I am sure he is fast enough to be a safety, something that is a need here.

7 - C.J. Fiedorowicz to Illinois. I know he is from Illinois but it looked like he was headed anywhere but Illinois.

8 - Taylor Graham to Ohio State. His dad is a former Buckeye but the Buckeyes had him down their board. He had some great offers on the table, is not from Ohio, and Ohio State was not his dads first choice. We came in late. Great get on one of the hottest quarterbacks in the country in a down year for quarterbacks.

9 - Courtney Avery to Michigan. He was committed to Stanford. I did not know he changed his mind until I started putting this together. Great looking little player. I wonder if not for such a successful haul last year would he have seen a Buckeye offer.

10 - Josh Davis to Purdue. Don't look at what kind of player he is. Just look at how big he is and how athletic he is for his size. You can find a place for that somewhere. You can find a few things for him to do.

Mich St. seems to be on the right track. I think the "lil brother" era might be over.

D, could you do a B10 recruiting overview?

nice read d. i've been critical of your OL posts lately but this is good stuff. some thoughts.....i hate to say it but UM is getting much faster..quickly - good thing for this conference though. OSU is starting to make some inroads into Maryland but no one snags that states top talent like Joe Pa and PSU.

Is the formatting off for anyone else? These posts are stretching the page really wide for me.

You have not been critical. You have disagreed. Big difference. Different opinions are not only allowed but encouraged on this board.

That is a traditional feeding ground for Penn State. Jersey too. We have always snuck in and snatched a player or 2 out of Jersey but recently we have hurt Joepa badly in Maryland. He had free rein there for the longest time.

Not for me. It's a pain in the ass scrolling back and forth from right to left.

Please fix it Duane.

Did you use preformatted text ("pre" tags) for the post? That might be what's forcing it to be so wide.
BIG 10 STEALS...
written by dbuckeye44, July 16, 2009
Interesting article; thank you. tOSU having 2 out of the 10 is a good thing especially since we only have 8 commits at this time. Yes scum is getting faster but to this point they do not indicate they feel it is important to have any blocking for this speed (one OL Pace committed thus far). They just had another OL defect. I am just hoping when you come out with this list in mid-February that the #1 steal in the Big 10 will be Henderson to tOSU and #2 will be Joyner to tOSU.

I'm not ready to annoint TSUN anything right now. They've gotten faster but I don't think that will transfer to tons of big wins. Sure the team is faster but some of these kids are avg. football players with avg. football IQ's. The rankings love speed and in HS running away from people was easy EVEN if you took the wrong cut originally. Howeve in college, If you run to the wrong hole it doesn't matter how fast you are.
Miller/Robinson

Duane,
I could not agree more with you on your recent O-line questions....I have the same concerns.

Also, Isn't R. Miller the Michigan verbal with deep U-M ties and not Robinson? I read that his parents or relatives were U-M grads.

If you left Marvin Robinson off because of deep Michigan ties I don't think Ricardo Miller should be on the list either. He has dreamed of playing for Michigan for a long time, his mother is an alum. His family moved up to Ann Arbor this summer so he could be closer to the school. His recruiting of Marvin Robinson is a big reason for Marvin committing early.

Duane, solid list. I agree on Graham and Durham. Durham was for sure headed to Ole Miss, Alabama or somewhere in the SEC. His stock continues to rise -. Since moving to NC he is now rated as the #12 overall prospect in the state and the guy admits he is vastly underrated due to his move. Good get by Fickell.
