Carlos Hyde is going to Fork Union. Someone is advising this kid well. Not playing football next season was going to have a huge impact on his career. I think the odds were high that he was never going to be the same player missing an entire year at this early point in his career. No matter the level of competition, and I do not know what that level is at Fork Union, it is still reps. It is still staying sharp. That he is going to a school with strong ties to Ohio State bodes well for Hyde still being a Buckeye. I was not excited about him coming here after a year away from football. Now I am just as excited as I ever was about him. This is a grayshirt in steroids as unlike the standard grayshirt route, he plays football.
My boy D-Bids is reporting that Boom Herron is impressing in offseason workouts. With the guy I think is the best fit for the offense playing football at Fork Union this year, this is the best possible news.
Biddle is also reporting that walk-on fullback James Georgiades, who looked like the best blocking fullback on the team this past spring, is likely done due to a back injury. I heard about this earlier in the week but had no confirmation. The difference between my info and Daves is mine says he is done. It is over. Finding a fullback is going to be crucial.
I can't stop thinking about Doug Worthington. We are going to see alot of odd man front out of the Buckeyes. Nobody is going to benefit more from that. He does not have the explosion and athleticism of a 4-3 DE but is not big enough to be a 4-3 tackle, as we have learned. He could benefit greatly from playing a position he is best suited for, especially now that the NFL is seeing more and more teams move to the 3-4. A good senior year helps the team but it also helps his chances of playing at the next level.Wish him well. Worthington is a great kid.
The Buckeyes and safety Chad Hagan seem to be match. I know his measurables are off the scale but I am bothered by the fact that there is no tape out there. I have been doing this for alot of years. I have lost count of the number of players over the years that I have heard about but the tape never arrives. That and the fact that his offer list is not that impressive leaves me not very excited about this offer.
I am warming up to Baldwin. I am not going to rank him as high as some though. I went back and looked at the much maligned highlight video. The word is those are the not the best plays from his junior year. Those are the only plays. He disappears in game films for long stretches. A highlight film shows a player at his best. It shows what he is capable of. What we see on the film is an NFL capable player if you can light a fire under him. He is a great character kid so he will always do his job. Move him to tight end and he can be an effective player the way we use the tight end in our offense if all he does is just do his job. A tight end that can be an effective blocker is something we really need in this class.
