Seems like there is a slew of activity with basketball recruiting right now. I like seeing the offer to Griffin McKenzie, the fast rising power forward from Moeller. Something about Adrien Payne has always rubbed me wrong. His offer list is not what you would think it would be for a player who is a consensus top 20-25 player. You usually see that kind of player with a handful on national offers. All you see with him is Arizona and Kentucky, both at one time elite schools, Kentucky a crown jewel of college basketball, but whether they are now elite is a subject of debate. Does he have an ACC offer? No Michigan State for a top 20-25 prospect from Ohio? I like the McKenzie offer.

I this class is a strong second to the 2006 class. 3 of the top 50 in the country plus Aaron Craft who just lit up a camp. If we can get McKenzie away from Xavier I think Oden is the only thing giving 2006 the edge. I think there is an argument that this class is deeper.

Speaking of the class of 2006, I was kicking it around with a few friends privately. Do you know how good David Lighty was on the football field? We talk about LeBron James as a football player. Lighty was a better football player than he is a basketball player. If James would have stayed with football he would have been the #1 player in that class. Lighty was the #1 football player in that class on my board at one point. He would do himself a favor by trying to get over the football field. Would he have the option of playing football for a year after his senior basketball game. I know there is a formula where some players can do that. He might kick around the NBA as a utility guy for a few years but he could be a future star in the NFL after a few years.

We offered a 2012 kid? Basketball recruiting makes football recruiting look tame in comparison.
