It is game week. Not to mention I have to get back to posting daily and stopping in several times a day as there are mischief makers out there that can't be allowed to get away with controlling the flow of information.
I want to touch on something that gives you some insight into just how important recruiting close to home is. Just how basic it is but how important. If you are not aware of the Cordale Scott situation, he has left Illinois and transferred to Toledo. For those that don't remember, he was the big athlete from Glenville who is the only Glenville player in the Tressel era to have a scholarship offer from the Buckeyes and chose to go elsewhere. I am going to go out on a limb and based on his current situation I bet he would make a different decision today. One of the etched in stone rules of recruiting is, recruiting is local. Most players come from instate.
The vast majority of the players on any roster in the country come from that region. Players see schools in their region more. They see them on television. They may have been to games at some of those schools but the one thing that gets overlooked is close to home is just that. Close to home. There is that connection to family and firends just a couple of hours away. When things are tough, the kid is not playing, he is beat up, the playbook might as well be Einsteins theory of Relativity, and his girl is complaining about the problems of a long distance relationship, he can just drive home. That basic. That simple. When things went badly for Scott he had to change schools. Glenville kids don't transfer, even ones not playing alot. They know they can just drive home for the day.
So little is coming out about practice. JT has really shut it down. A contact is telling me that practice have been "very intense and very physical." He is a current player at another school who has friends on the current roster. He said his friends were really surprised at how hard they are going. That tells me that JT is going to get after it. He is going to bring his team in sharp and focused.
