I have nothing on what happened to Moeller. How it happened. Nothing that I can confirm so I will not publish it. I do have something on the current situation:
Here is what I got:
Any speculation about how long he is going to be out are not accurate. Nobody knows. It is how soon he works through it. Nobody can say how long that might take. He can't play right now. The next time you ask me about it I am just as likely to tell you that he is ready to play as I am to say he is going to be out for longer. If you asked me if he was going to be ready to start the season I would say possibly. If you asked me if he was going to be out for the season I would say possibly. If you asked me could it be career threatening I would say possibly. The only thing that is a known commodity is he cannot play like he is right now.
Replacements. Rolle comes to mind but I don't know about him in coverage. I don't know if he has the hips to turn and run, or the mindset for the patience it takes to cover. It may be time to look at Oliver for the role. He is never going to be able to cover in the back third of the field. Fugeddaboutit. He is not fast enough. He was always a dynamic player close to the line of scrimmage. His name does not even come up in conversations about 2-deep at safety. Damincone has some great measurables for the position. Sabino would be interesting to take a look at. He is such an athletic kid. He runs so well. I think coverage would be pushing the upper limits of his athleticism and it is more of an assignment position. That is something that is already causing him problems as a linebacker where he has a little more opportunity to do what he does best which is run and hit. Playing the Star would require him to be a more patient player. If he could do it he would be the perfect Star. Not having to sacrifice size to get a player who could cover and play in space would be such an asset.
I like the 2 safeties coming down. Most hybrids are former safeties. This staff likes to move undersized high school linebackers into the position.
