As I look over the current Buckeye target list I see a strategy of big fish hunting. No sailfish on good ship class of 2010. We are hunting marlin. The downside is everyone else is tageting these players. Think about this ten:
1 - Seantrell Henderson
2 - Corey Brown
3 - LaMarcus Joyner
4 - Joshua Shaw
5 - Fre'Shad Hunter
6 - Matt James
7 - Chaz Green
8 - Matt Elam
9 - Dietrich Riley
10 - Brandon Linder
If we get two off this list we are going to be happy Buckeye fans. That means we could have some holes. I started this post with the idea of coming up with a list of fall back players for you. We have a problem.
I was thinking about players instate first. It is easier to get back in on instate players. In fact, the Buckeyes have made a habit of raiding other schools committment lists for player when we lose out on someone late. The talent level in Ohio is not good this year. Saying someone will pop-up late after a great senior year is not likely. We are identifying players so early now that it is unlikley to happen. How many Ohio players have the Buckeyes offered in the last 5 years who were not on the radar before the season? Damicone, Spitler, and Chad McCarthy who picked Notre Dame a few years ago and the QB from Kettering Alter last year. It is more likely that we see the staff go back on players who have committed elsewhere but because of the lack of talent in this class the pickings are slim. Some players that would make the list have not been recruited by the Buckeyes with Jerald Robinson, Tevon Eatman and Courtney Avery at the top of my list. The buzz is the Buckeyes brought Robinson in early and told him that they would not be offering. The decision has already been made not to offer Alex Smith. It is going to be hard to get back in on kids like them. Most of the others the Buckeyes were interested in enough to offer have made commitments, Alex Welch, Andrew Hendrix and Spencer Ware. With commitments to other schools while the Buckeyes had an offer on the table, I think the odds of getting back in on them is going to so long as to be pointless. When things didn't fall our way with recruits in past years we had some kind of familiarity with most of the players whose names came up as potential offers. This year it looks like the list is going to include a good number of players who we are going to be looking for video of.
