Dave Biddle picked up something about Duron Carter. Veteran defensive backs are telling Dave the rookie is causing them problems in 7 on 7s That jibes with something I got from an ex-player who happens to be a receiver. He said Duron will be better than his dad. Something I mentioned a couple of months ago that you need to keep in mind is the lack of split ends. The only true split ends on the roster are Devier Posey and Carter. Washington is only other kid who would not be completely out of place as a split end and he is not well suited for the position. I was very high on Carter to begin with. The Technician at Bucknuts had a good response to the buzz about Carter. He cautioned that the kid needs to learn how to block and he needs to learn sight adjustments as well as adjustments at the line of scrimmage. Take a look at his film. How often do you see blocking plays included in receiver tapes? Only when the coach wants to make a point that this kid will always get involved in the running game. Carter is a willing blocker and quite a good one. I saw a full game of his and he showed that same willingness to block and was always around the ball. We think about genes when we look at the children of former players but I think it is more the osmosis of living in that environment that helps them most. This kid seems to have both going for him. There are a couple of things I like about this beyond the budding of another great Buckeye receiver. I like that we could put 2 big receivers on the field. Hartline caused match-up problems because slot receivers were not supposed to be that big. Posey was a national top 5 receiver coming out of high school. His versatility had everything to do with that. He has the size and the game to be a split end but has the quickness to run the underneath stuff. With Small looking at an uphill battle to make it back, having a player like Posey who can slide inside makes us that much more versatile an offense.
